Ever wondered how it is your new house can be transformed from an open and empty lot, to a completed, fully-functional home in a matter of months? We’re here to walk you through the steps the PAH team take to get you there; and along the way, share a few interesting facts and tricks of the trade!
STAGE 1: Commencement
Even before our team of expert tradies have picked up a tool on your job site, they will have already been flat out behind the scenes organizing quotes, coordinating different parts of the job, getting the design finalised, corresponding with many different parties, testing, ordering, and double checking everything is perfect before day one on site.
They’ll also be working hard to ensure transparency with you – the client – so you know exactly what to expect over the coming months.
DID YOU KNOW?
In this early stage, we are all about protecting the foundation and footings of your home that will soon take shape. Because of this, we recommend an area of paving, such as a footpath, be laid around the perimeter of the home, extending at least 80cm (800mm) from the exterior walls.
STAGE 2: Laying the slab
Stage two will begin with the excavation of your lot, in preparation for the digging and pouring of your footings and concrete slab. This is a crucially important stage of the build, as the quality of materials and labour here will set the tone for the stability and structural integrity of the entire home.
DID YOU KNOW?
Concrete has a life of its own! When a build takes place in the warmer months, a concrete slab can typically be walked over several hours after it’s been poured.
Though it’s common place for us to allow two to three days before any heavy loads are applied to the slab surface, and over the coming weeks, we’ll continue to back prop the slab, allowing it to continually gain strength as the project moves forward.
Concrete will continue to expand, contract and settle, to lessening degrees, for many years to come.
STAGE 3: Frames and trusses
Following some time allowed for the slab to cure, the PAH team will then move on to getting the structure of your new home in place. The frames, roof trusses and structural steel will be installed, inspected and double-checked for accuracy and stability before any other work moves ahead.
At the point, you’ll be more than welcome to organise a site inspection, and bring your family along to see how their brand new home is coming together.
DID YOU KNOW?
With your home quickly taking shape, you’ll be starting to seriously think about colours and styles for the interior.
If spaces are small, we recommend opting for a light and bright colour on the walls. They will be more reflective, and create a feeling of openness in the room, using light to your advantage and making the space feel bigger than it really is.
Similarly, dark colours will make a space seem smaller as they absorb light,
